BELEM, Brazil: Chief Minister of Pakistan’s Punjab province Maryam Nawaz Sharif and former prime minister of New Zealand Dame Jacinda Ardern have jointly inaugurated the Pakistan Pavilion on the sidelines of the COP30 Climate Conference in Brazil.
Jacinda Ardern, attending the summit as the Special Representative for Pacific Nations, visited the pavilion and viewed a documentary highlighting the Punjab government’s initiatives on pollution control and environmental protection.
Ardern commended Punjab’s eco-friendly policies and its efforts to combat environmental degradation.
“You have taken bold and admirable steps toward environmental progress in a short period,” she said during her conversation with the chief minister.

Chief Minister Maryam briefed Ardern on her government’s strategic plan to address climate challenges, emphasising sustainable development, clean energy, and green urban initiatives.
She also expressed appreciation for Ardern’s dedicated public service during her tenure as New Zealand’s prime minister.

Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb, along with Provincial Ministers Rana Sikandar and Zeeshan Rafiq, accompanied the chief minister at the event.
The Pakistan Pavilion at COP30 serves as a platform to showcase the country’s climate resilience initiatives, renewable energy projects, and provincial green action plans to the global community.
The high-stakes conference aims to accelerate action on carbon emissions, renewable energy, and climate financing, as nations face mounting pressure to deliver on their environmental commitments and prevent irreversible damage to the planet.
