ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday performed the groundbreaking of a Daanish School in mountainious Chitral district, describing it as a milestone project aimed at extending high-quality education to students from underprivileged and remote regions of Pakistan.
Addressing the ceremony, the Prime Minister said the state-of-the-art campus, equipped with digital libraries, smart boards, and modern playgrounds, will provide free boarding and lodging to deserving students from the area. He said the school will be on par with Aitchison College Lahore in terms of academic standards and facilities, ensuring equal opportunities for children from ordinary families.
The Prime Minister emphasised that the idea to establish a Daanish School in Chitral was a personal initiative, not the result of any request. “It is my vision to expand quality education to far-flung regions, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan,” he said, calling the project a gift from the Federal Government to the people of Chitral.
He expressed confidence that the school would be completed and inaugurated next year, adding that similar educational projects are being planned for other underserved regions.
Responding to local demands, the Prime Minister also announced the establishment of a gas plant in Chitral and assured that the issue of electricity tariffs in Upper Chitral would be resolved amicably.
In response to public requests, he further announced that the Federal Government will establish a university in Upper Chitral, expanding access to higher education in the mountainous region.
The Prime Minister also noted that several infrastructure projects were already underway in the area, reflecting the government’s commitment to balanced regional development.
