LAHORE, Pakistan: South Africa’s left-arm spinner Senuran Muthusamy made history with a remarkable bowling performance in the first Test against Pakistan at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium.
He became only the second bowler to take five-wicket hauls in both innings of a Test match in Pakistan, a rare feat achieved by England’s Nick Cook nearly 41 years ago.
Muthusamy took 6 wickets for 117 runs in Pakistan’s first innings and followed it up with 5 wickets for 57 runs in the second innings, finishing with impressive match figures of 11 wickets for 174 runs. His outstanding performance helped South Africa stay competitive in the match.
Muthusamy’s record-breaking effort puts him alongside Nick Cook, who was the first to take five wickets in both innings in a Test against Pakistan in 1984.
His performance is now the best ever by a bowler between South Africa and Pakistan on Pakistani soil, surpassing Hasan Ali’s 10 for 114 from 2021.
Muthusamy’s 11 wickets also place him among the top five bowlers in terms of best figures at Gaddafi Stadium, with only Imran Khan and Abdul Qadir ahead of him. This performance has made him one of South Africa’s standout bowlers in the ongoing series.
