ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project, calling it a “transformative pillar” of bilateral cooperation.

“We remain fully committed to ensuring the successful implementation of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a transformative pillar of our cooperation as well as its transition to the second phase with five new corridors,” PM Sharif said in a post on his X handle on the occasion of the 76th National Day of China.

Launched in 2015, the CPEC infrastructure programme includes energy projects, highways, railways, and the development of the Gwadar Port on the Arabian Sea.

Pakistan and China are currently working to advance into “CPEC 2.0,” focused on industrialisation, agriculture, energy, and connectivity.

He extended his heartfelt felicitations to President Xi Jinping as well as to the Chinese people, on behalf of the people and Government of Pakistan. He noted that under President Xi Jinping’s visionary leadership, China’s remarkable progress and prosperity serve as a beacon for the world.

Prime Minister Sharif mentioned that his recent visit to China in September this year further strengthened ties with China across all spheres.

He added that the ‘All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership’ between Pakistan and China, rooted in a glorious history since 1951, embodies mutual trust, sacrifice, and sincerity.

“As iron brothers, our unbreakable bond continues to deepen, ensuring peace, progress, and prosperity for our nations and our future generations,” he concluded.
