ISLAMABAD: In a major opportunity for aspiring researchers, Canada has opened applications for its prestigious Canada Graduate Research Scholarship 2026, inviting students from Pakistan and across the world to apply for advanced doctoral studies at Canadian universities.
According to the state news agency APP, the scholarship offers financial support of CAD 40,000 annually for up to three years, helping students focus on high-impact research and innovation.
Eligibility Criteria
The scholarship is open to both Canadian citizens and international students, including Pakistani nationals, provided they meet the following criteria which included that the applicant should already be enrolled in a recognized PhD program in Canada and have not completed more than 36 months of doctoral studies as of December 31, 2025.
Students in combined degree programs (e.g., MD/PhD, MA/PhD) are also eligible if the program includes a research thesis.
Applications must be submitted through the relevant Canadian university with a deadline to apply set as October 17, 2025.
In a related development, Bangladesh has also announced 500 scholarships for Pakistani students, further strengthening academic and diplomatic ties between the two nations.
