ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Monday spoke with the Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov and discussed cooperation in the trade and investment sectors.

“Expressing satisfaction over collaboration in multilateral fora, they agreed to maintain close coordination for forthcoming UN and OIC engagements, as well as consultations on SCO-related issues,” said a statement issued by the Foreign Office.

It may be recalled that Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif received a phone call from Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev on Sunday evening, during which he felicitated Azerbaijan on reaching a peace agreement with Armenia.

“During their warm and cordial telephone conversation, the Prime Minister lauded the visionary role of President Ilham Aliyev in bringing the three-decades-old conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia to a peaceful and mutually beneficial end, especially as it would usher in a new era of prosperity for the Caucasus,” an official statement said.

Last month, Pakistan and Azerbaijan agreed to enhance cooperation in trade and investment.

Both countries renewed their commitment as Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev on the sidelines of the Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO) Summit in Khankendi, Azerbaijan, on July 4.

During the meeting, the two leaders agreed to enhance their cooperation in the fields of trade and investment while expressing satisfaction over the progress made regarding the investment prospects.

Both leaders reiterated their resolve to strengthen the economic partnership, especially Azerbaijan’s investment in Pakistan.
