ISLAMABAD: The Youm-e-Ashur was observed on Sunday across Pakistan with due solemnity and respect to pay homage to the sacrifice rendered by Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions in Karbala.
This day is a reminder of the unwavering resilience of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), the beloved grandson of the Prophet (PBUH), his family, and companions, who defended Islam against cruelty.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in their messages on 10th Muharram, paid rich tribute to the sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions, saying that the day of Ashur gives us a message of sacrifice, truthfulness, sincere determination, and standing up for the truth.
Commemorating this historic day, President Zardari called upon the nation to follow the path of Imam Hussain (RA) and not only reform itself but also base the governance system, social attitudes, and national priorities on honesty, decency, and public welfare.
He stressed the need for the display of unity and facing the forces of cruelty and evil with steadfastness while learning lessons from the incident of Karbala.
Meanwhile, PM Shehbaz Sharif, in his message, urged the nation to take guidance from the life and character of Imam Hussain (RA) to overcome internal and external challenges and keep Pakistan on the path of peace, unity, and progress.
“Ashura is a profound and instructive day in the history of Islam, which gives us the great lesson of patience, sacrifice, and standing firm on principles. This day will continue to illuminate the conscience of humanity till the Day of Judgment,” he said.
The mourning procession in Karachi started from Nishtar Park, in which not only men, but women, children, and the elderly also took part.
The mourners were allowed to enter the procession through designated areas to ensure security. The mourners also donated blood to show their love for those who lost their lives in Karbala, and for this, several blood donation camps had also been set up.
The mourning procession began at around 8am from Nisar Haveli in Lahore. The mourners last night had prayed “Namaz-e-Ali Akbar”, after which they rested and then started their procession today.
The 10th Muharram procession passed through its traditional route. Stalls had been set up by volunteers for food and water on the route of the mourning procession.
The main “Zuljanah” procession commenced in Rawalpindi from Imam Bargah Colonel Maqbool Hussain and culminated at Qadeemi Imam Bargah after the maghrib prayer.
Mobile control room
Elaborate security arrangements were made to thwart any untoward incident. Meanwhile, on the directions of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, a mobile control room was also established for the first time in Islamabad as part of the Ashura security plan.
The mobile control room was capable of operating even without mobile signals, ensuring uninterrupted monitoring and coordination.
Last week, the Ministry of Interior approved the nationwide deployment of the Pakistan Army and civil armed forces (CAFs) to bolster security during the holy month.
Meanwhile, mobile phone and internet services remain suspended in various cities as part of the security measures.
