Pakistan’s Ruet-e-Hilal Committee to Meet Thursday for Muharram Moon Sighting

ISLAMABAD:  A meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee has been summoned in Quetta on June 26 (Thursday) for sighting the crescent moon of Muharram-ul-Haram 1447 Hijri.

Chairman of the Committee Moulana Abdul Khabir Azad will preside over the meeting, according to Radio Pakistan.

Zonal Ruet-e-Hilal Committees will also meet separately today at their respective headquarters for the moon sighting.

Moon-sighting announcement

According to Pakistan state-run news agency, the APP, in Islamabad, the zonal committee of the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) will hold its meeting at the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony.

The ministry has requested that all information related to the moon’s position be promptly shared via designated landline and mobile numbers to facilitate the official moon-sighting announcement.

Earlier, the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) had predicted likely sighting of Muharram ul Haram 1447 Hijri moon on June 26 evening and the first day of the month and the new Hijri year on June 27.

“An expected duration between the sunset and the moonset at coastal areas will be 75 minutes,” a spokesman of the Suparco said.
