ISTANBUL: Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Sunday reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination, calling for a just resolution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions.
Speaking at the OIC Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir in Istanbul, Dar urged the Organisation to intensify efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Kashmiri people and find a just settlement of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.
“The human rights violations are taking place in Indian-occupied Kashmir on a daily basis and Kashmiris have endured decades of oppression,” Dar said.
Dar urged the OIC and its member states to leverage their influence to press India to improve the human rights situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
He called for the release of political prisoners, the repeal of repressive emergency laws, the withdrawal of military forces from civilian areas, and the implementation of relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

He emphasised that both the Kashmiri and Palestinian people are engaged in struggles for their legitimate rights.
“The Kashmir issue must be resolved in accordance with United Nations Security Council resolutions,” he said, reiterating that Pakistan has always stood by the Kashmiri people in their fight for freedom.
Commenting on regional tensions, Dar criticised India’s handling of the Pahalgam incident, accusing New Delhi of opting for aggression instead of conducting a thorough investigation.
“Instead of probing the incident, India levelled baseless allegations against Pakistan,” he stated, adding that Pakistan acted in self-defence and targeted only military installations during its response.
Earlier, Ishaq Dar reaffirmed Islamabad’s “unwavering support for Iran’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and its right to self-defence under the UN Charter”.
Deputy PM Dar expressed this resolve during a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, on the sidelines of the 51st OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in Istanbul on Sunday, Dar stated in a post on X.
“I reiterated Pakistan’s strong condemnation of Israel’s unjustified and unlawful attacks on Iran, as well as the US strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities,” Dar stated.
