ISLAMABAD: In the FIH Hockey Nations Cup, Pakistan will play their third match against New Zealand at National Hockey Stadium in Kuala Lumpur today. The match will start at 3 pm (Pakistan Standard Time).
Earlier, the Pakistan national hockey team secured a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Japan in their second match of the FIH Hockey Nations Cup on Tuesday in Kuala Lumpur.
Pakistan, after a strong start with a goal from Ghazanfar Ali, found themselves trailing 2-1 at the end of the first quarter, a lead Japan maintained until halftime. However, the Green Shirts showed resilience in the second half.
Pakistan beat Japan
Waheed Ashraf scored in the third quarter to level the score, and Sufyan Khan netted the decisive goal in the fourth quarter, sealing the 3-2 win for Pakistan.
Pakistan also played out a thrilling 3-3 draw against hosts Malaysia in their opening game on June 15.
Ahmed Nadeem and Abdul Rehman gave Pakistan an early advantage with two quick goals in the first quarter, helping their team head into the fourth quarter with a commanding 2-0 lead.
However, Malaysia bounced back with two goals in quick succession in the final quarter, levelling the score.
Pakistan regained the lead when Rana Waheed Ashraf found the net, but Malaysia replied just two minutes later with another equaliser by Cholan, his second goal of the match, to make it 3-3.
In the event, Pakistan is placed in Pool B alongside New Zealand, Malaysia, and Japan.
Pool A consists of France, South Korea, South Africa, and Wales.
