KARACHI: Pakistan top order batter Ayesha Zafar played the innings of her life, smashing an unbeaten 102 runs off 47 balls to power Pakistan Women to a colossal 237 in the first T20I against Zimbabwe at the National Bank Stadium on Tuesday.

The dynamic right-hander struck 15 fours and 2 sixes at a breathtaking strike rate of 217.02, anchoring the innings after Pakistan were asked to bat first. Her maiden T20I century came off just 47 deliveries, making it one of the fastest hundreds in women’s T20I cricket.

Opener Gull Feroza provided a flying start with a brisk 37 off 19 balls (8 fours), but it was Ayesha who stole the show. She found able support from captain Fatima Sana (21* off 13) and Aliya Riaz, who smashed a quickfire 48 off just 23 balls, including 4 fours and 4 sixes.

Pakistan lost early wickets, Muneeba Ali fell for 2, while Saira Jabeen (5) and Natalia Pervaiz (9) couldn’t capitalize. But Ayesha held one end firmly, rotating strike expertly while punishing loose deliveries.

For Zimbabwe, Nomvelo Sibanda with 2 wickets was the pick of the bowlers. Michelle Mavunga, Kelis Ndhlovu (Biza) and Precious Marange bagged 1 wicket each.
