JEDDAH: Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, Prince Mohammed bin Salman, has held phone calls with the leaders of France, Italy, and the US to discuss the latest developments in the region, according to the Saudi Press Agency.
Iran launched a barrage of missiles at Israel early Saturday as part of “Operation True Promise 3,” in retaliation for Israeli airstrikes on Iranian nuclear and military facilities that resulted in the deaths of several senior Iranian generals.
The missile attack came a day after Israeli strikes killed nearly 80 people in Iran, including high-ranking military officers, and injured over 300 civilians, according to Iran’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Saeed Iravani.
During a phone call, the Crown Prince and French President Emmanuel Macron discussed the latest developments in the region and the repercussions of Israeli operations on Iran. They also affirmed the need to exert all possible efforts for de-escalation, restraint, and resolving all disputes through diplomatic means.
In a separate call with Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, the two leaders stressed the necessity of making every effort to de-escalate the situation, the importance of exercising restraint, and resolving all disputes through diplomatic means.
Earlier, the Saudi Crown Prince, during a phone call with President Donald Trump, discussed developments in the region, including the Israeli military operations against Iran.
“Both sides discussed the critical importance of restraint, de-escalation, and resolving all disputes through diplomatic means. They also stressed the need for continued joint work to achieve security, peace, and stability in the Middle East,” the SPA said.
It may be recalled that French President Emmanuel Macron had also announced that, because of the Israel-Iran clash, the UN conference on a two-state solution for Israel and the Palestinians that France and Saudi Arabia planned to co-chair next week in New York had been postponed.
“While we have to postpone this conference for logistical and security reasons, it will take place as soon as possible,” he said at a press conference.
