ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Mohammad Ishaq Dar, held a telephonic conversation with the Foreign Minister of Iran, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, on Friday.

Condemning the blatant Israeli aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran in total disregard of the UN Charter and international law, Ishaq Dar reiterated strong support of Pakistan to the Government and brotherly people of Iran for achieving peace and stability in the region, according to a statement issued by Pakistan’s Foreign Office.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister also conveyed their deepest sympathies on the loss of many precious lives during Israeli attacks.

Earlier, Ishaq Dar in a post on X said this abhorrent action by Israel has shaken the foundations of international law as well as the conscience of humanity, and gravely undermines regional stability and international security.

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has also issued a strong condemnation of the Israeli airstrikes on Iran.

In a post shared on X he stated: “I condemn, in the strongest possible terms, today’s unprovoked attack on Iran by Israel. I convey my deepest sympathies to the Iranian people on the loss of lives in this attack. This grave and highly irresponsible act is deeply alarming and risks further destabilising an already volatile region.”

Israel on Friday launched an operation across Iran under the codename “Operation Rising Lion,” delivering a devastating blow to Tehran’s military and scientific command structure.

The coordinated strikes—targeting nuclear facilities, missile factories, and high-level military headquarters—led to the deaths of over 20 senior military officials and six top nuclear scientists, in what experts are calling one of the most consequential attacks on Iranian leadership in modern history.

Among those killed were the nation’s two most powerful military figures: Major General Hossein Salami, commander-in-chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), and Major General Mohammad Bagheri, chief of staff of the Iranian Armed Forces. Their deaths, alongside other key generals and scientific minds, have left a vacuum at the heart of Iran’s defence and strategic institutions.
