OIC Secretary General Urges to Elaborate 2015-2025 Program of Action Successor

ISLAMABAD: Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Secretary-General Hissein Brahim Taha on Thursday emphasized the need to elaborate the successor program to the OIC 2015-2025 Program of Action for the next decade of 2026-2035.

Addressing the expanded Annual Coordination Meeting of OIC Institutions (ACMOI), the Secretary-General welcomed the chiefs of OIC executive organs to the ACMOI meeting, convened after a three-year gap due to COVID-19 pandemic.

The Secretary-General said that ACMOI’s regular consultations and discussions, undoubtedly, give the group and its institutions an opportunity to review priorities and joint actions for addressing common challenges and help Member Countries in the face of the pandemic compounded by climate change, conflicts, natural hazards, and other challenges.

The meeting reviewed the progress made since the 5th ACMOI moot in 2019 and discussed new tasks coming from the latest Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) resolutions and decisions of other Organization of Islamic Cooperation Ministerial Conferences in the socio-economic domain.

OIC Secretary General receives UN Under-Secretary General for Counterterrorism

In a separate development, the Secretary-General held a meeting with United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Counterterrorism Vladimir Voronkov at the headquarters of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation General Secretariat.

Both leaders discussed cooperation between United Nations Office for Counter Terrorism and Organization of Islamic Cooperation and possibilities for further consolidating within the framework of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) inked in 2018.

They also discussed the security challenges faced by many OIC member states, issues of cybersecurity, and financial terrorism, and called for increased international cooperation in this regard.
