HANOI: A massive fire at a factory in northern Vietnam destroyed 3,000 electric bikes and motorbikes on Friday, according to state media reports.

The blaze erupted around 7:00 AM at the DK Vietnam-Japan Electric Vehicle Company in Lang Son City, sending thick smoke billowing from a warehouse and causing several explosions.

In addition to the bikes, over 2,000 electric motorcycle components were also consumed by the flames. Hoang Van Khoi, husband of the company’s founder, confirmed the incident to AFP but did not provide further details.

The fire reportedly began on the second floor of the parts warehouse and quickly spread to other floors and adjacent workshops, as reported by state-owned VTV. The DK Bike facility covers more than 3,000 square meters (approximately 32,300 square feet) and includes areas for production, assembly, parts storage, and a showroom for finished vehicles.

Authorities have mostly extinguished the fire and are currently investigating its cause. DK Bike is a joint venture between Vietnam and Japan, specializing in the production of bicycles, electric bicycles, electric motorcycles, and 50cc small-displacement motorcycles.
