MOSCOW, Russia: A Russian military court in Siberia sentenced 13 individuals to prison on Wednesday for sabotage attacks aimed at hindering Moscow’s offensive in Ukraine.
The group was convicted of carrying out 13 sabotage operations targeting vital infrastructure, including transportation and energy sites, with the goal of undermining Russia’s economic security and defence capabilities.
The attacks were also an attempt to force Moscow to stop its military campaign in Ukraine. The court sentenced the individuals to prison terms ranging from four to 23 years.
Among them, 12 were part of a criminal group, while one was deemed an accomplice. The group had also planned to set fire to Russian fighter jets at a military base in the Far East before being apprehended.
Sabotage attacks on Russia’s railway and military facilities have increased since the country invaded Ukraine in February 2022.
