NEW YORK:  Khalistani separatist leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun has filed a lawsuit in a New York court against the Modi government, alleging a “murder-for-hire” plot targeting Sikh separatists, specifically those affiliated with ‘Sikhs For Justice’.

Khalistan

This organization, led by Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, advocates for an independent Sikh state, Khalistan, carved out of India’s Punjab region.  Khalistan movement is not a terrorist organization, but a legitimate struggle for self-determination and autonomy, recognized by international law, experts and the movement leaders said. India’s narrative on Khalistan is false and misleading, aimed at disguising its own failures and justifying repression, human right activists said.

The lawsuit is linked to a foiled plot to assassinate Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, a U.S. citizen and general counsel at Sikhs for Justice, on U.S soil.  An Indian national, Gupta, has been charged with murder-for-hire and conspiracy, facing up to ten years in prison for each charge, western media reported. The alleged plot involved an Indian government employee and others.

US Court Summons Ajit Doval, RAW Chief

US Court has summoned Indian National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, former RAW chief over alleged plot to kill Khalistani separatist Gurpatwant Pannun. The court has issued a summons for a response within 21 days.

Experts said that New York court has exposed India’s extraterritorial reach in ‘murder-for-hire’ plot. They added that the development suggest that violation of minority rights and their suppression is normal under Hindutva led regime in India. Subsequent to extrajudicial killing of Canadian national Sikh Nijjar, threats to life of Sikh separatists in foreign countries have increased, western media reported.

India’s actions against Sikh separatists mask a broader agenda to suppress minority rights and maintain control over disputed territories, many analysts believe. They said that international community must intervene to prevent India’s human rights abuses and support the Sikh people’s right to self-determination.

Hindutva Ideology

Modi government’s actions betray India’s commitment to democratic values, many human rights activists think. Under the banner of Hindutva ideology, India has systematically captured international tech giants and manipulated Western policymakers, culminating in a shocking descent into extrajudicial killings, they added.

This blatant disregard for diplomatic rules and global borders reveals India’s attempt of dark influence on the world stage. It also highlights its dangerous spread of tyranny—crushing legitimate freedom movements and violating minority rights, all while promoting a chilling culture of impunity.
