KYIV: Several explosions have been reported in the Russian-occupied Melitopol city in southern Ukraine, in annexed Crimea, and at the barracks of the Russian military.
The huge explosions in Melitopol occurred amid reports from Ukrainian and Russian officials that they had launched a missile attack on the Melitpool city on Saturday. At the same time, Russian state media said 20 missiles targeted the People’s Republic of Donetsk on Sunday morning.
Similarly, reports also emerged of several explosions in Russian-annexed Crimea, including at a military barracks in the Soviets.
Explosions in Donetsk, Crimea, and Melitopol
Melitopol’s administrators said four missiles targeted the city. The administrators claimed two people were killed and 10 others were injured in the missile attack. Melitopol’s mayor reported multiple explosions, including at a Russian forces-occupied church.
However, the authorities have not commented on the explosions in the Donetsk People’s Republic or Crimea.
Ukraine Missiles hit Melitopol, DPR
Since early March, Melitopol has been under Russian occupation in Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia Oblast.
Russia’s acting governor of Zaporizhzhia, Yevgeny Balitsky, claimed the missile attack on Melitopol on Saturday night had destroyed a recreation center where military base personnel, civilians, and people were having dinner.”
Ukraine’s former administrator of Melitopol city, Ivan Fedorov, also acknowledged the strikes and claimed Ukraine had targeted Russian military bases in Melitopol city.
Meanwhile, Russian officials said the missiles had hit several apartment buildings in the Donetsk People’s Republic Sunday morning.
