ISLAMABAD/ MINNEAPOLIS: J Alexander Kueng, a former Minneapolis police officer, who knelt on the late George Floyd’s back in May 2020, was sentenced to three-and-a-half-year in prison.

Kueng was one of the four police officers involved in the May 2020 arrest of black American George Floyd, which led to his death.
Kueng earlier pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter.

In May 2020, Floyd was killed by law enforcement after they knelt him and handcuffed him. Floyd’s death sparked outrage in America and globally with a wave of demonstrations against racial injustice and police brute use of force.
Kueng will serve his new sentence concurrently with a previous federal sentence for violating George Floyd’s civil rights.

In April 2021, former police officer Derek Chauvin was also convicted on charges of kneeling on Floyd’s neck for several minutes, he was sentenced to 22-and-a-half years in jail. Chauvin also pleaded guilty in December 2021.
In February, Kueng, and two other officers, Thomas Lane and Tou Thao, were also found guilty of deliberate indifference to Floyd’s serious medical needs during the attempted arrest.
