JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia: The Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), H.E. Mr. Hissein Brahim Taha, is set to lead the OIC General Secretariat’s delegation at the 50th Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM), scheduled for August 29-30, 2024, in Yaoundé, Cameroon. The conference, themed “Development of Transport and Communications Infrastructure within the OIC Framework: A Key Tool in the Fight against Poverty and Insecurity,” will address critical issues facing the Islamic world.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Taha will outline the OIC’s stance on pressing global issues, with a focus on the escalating Israeli attacks in Palestine, particularly in Gaza, and the resulting tensions in the Middle East. He will also present a report on the initiatives and projects undertaken by the OIC since the 49th CFM session in Mauritania in 2023, highlighting efforts to implement resolutions in various sectors.
The session will bring together Foreign Ministers from OIC Member States to discuss a wide range of topics, including political issues, the Palestinian cause, economic affairs, science and technology, cultural and social matters, and humanitarian concerns. The meeting also marks the 50th anniversary of Cameroon’s accession to the OIC in 1974, adding a historic dimension to the event.
