From Taxi Driver to YouTube Fame: Chahat Fateh Ali Khan’s Journey to Viral Sensation

LAHORE: A Pakistani popular due to his cringe music, Kashif Rana, known by his stage name Chaht Fateh Ali Khan took social media with his most recent song ‘Aye Haye Oye Hoye Bado Badi’ which gained immense popularity crossing 28 million views on YouTube, however leading to a copyright strike.

During the COVID-19 lockdown, Chahat Fateh Ali Khan gained attention over social media through his music. His discography includes songs as “Tu Chor Chor Chor”, “Pyara PSL”, “Lota Lota”, and “Gol Kattara” with the monotonous beat and changed lyrics of existing songs.

Despite his initial perception of a source of online humour, his viewership increased in 2023 with his performance at the IPPA Awards 2023 and appearance on various talk shows. His style different from traditional musical norms has also sparked a discussion.

According Pakistani media reports, Chahat Fateh Ali Khan was born in March 1965 in Sheikhupura and spent his early life there. He studied at the University of Punjab and the London School of Economics in England. He has also taught as a visiting faculty in the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS). Chahat Fateh Ali Khan played for the Lahore cricket team in the 1983-84 season of the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy in two first-class cricket matches.
