LONDON: Actor Amy Jackson has taken a stand in support of the people of Palestine amidst Israel’s ongoing assault on Rafah in Gaza, condemning film festivals and media outlets for silencing voices advocating for Palestine.
Jackson’s outspoken remarks come amid heightened global attention on the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza, where innocent Palestinian civilians, including women and children, continue to bear the brunt of Israeli violence.
In an Instagram post, Jackson expressed solidarity with the Palestinians and denounced the disparity between privileged lives and the harrowing realities faced by those enduring the assault. She highlighted the plight of the estimated 600,000 terrified children in Rafah, many of whom have been orphaned or displaced by the conflict.
Jackson lambasted film festivals and media outlets for silencing dissenting voices and failing to amplify the outcry against genocide. She called for an immediate ceasefire in the besieged Gaza Strip and urged people to continue raising awareness about the suffering of the Palestinian people.
“Do not stay silent. Do not let our governments distract from the torture the Palestinian people face. There is NO JUSTIFICATION for the murder of innocent men, women, and children,” Jackson said.
The actor’s plea follows recent controversy at the Cannes Film Festival, where veteran Hollywood actor Cate Blanchett’s choice of attire sparked debate. Fans noted the similarity of Blanchett’s dress to the Palestinian flag, speculating that the actor wore the dress as a symbol of solidarity with the Palestinian people.
Blanchett’s dress, adorned with black, white, and green colors, reminiscent of the Palestinian flag, garnered attention on social media, with many interpreting it as a subtle gesture of support for Palestine amidst the ongoing violence.
