PESHAWAR: All the students and teachers were rescued after fire engulfed a school in Haripur district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday, as the fire torched the entire compound. As per media reports, the fire was triggered by short-circuit, as more than 1,000 students were attending their classes at the Government Girls Higher Secondary Schoolin Sirikot.
Rescuers and local people failed to contain the fire which got out of control because of material in the structure, particularly the wooden furniture in classrooms, as firefighters rushed to the site from the nearby towns.
However, the local people have managed to evacuate the students and staff members before the fire torched the entire school building before the arrival of officials from various departments. Later, the rescue officials confirmed the reports that none of the persons present in the school received any injuries in the terrible incident, as winds were making the efforts to extinguish the fire.
The incident took place amid the persistent heatwave affecting Pakistan for over a week, which is likely to continue for another two days.
