DOHA: Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani on Wednesday discussed developments in Gaza Strip and occupied Palestinian territories with top European Union officials.

Qatari state media reported that the emir received a phone call from the President of the European Council, Charles Michel.

During the call they discussed key regional and global developments, particularly the situation in the Gaza Strip and the Occupied Palestinian Territories

They also discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between Qatar and the EU.

According to a statement by Amiri Diwan of Qatar, the emir discussed Gaza situation and bilateral ties, in a phone call with the European Commission president, Ursula von der Leyen.

Both sides reviewed regional and international developments, especially in the war hit Gaza-Strip and the occupied Palestinian territories, the statement added.

The phone calls come after Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majid Al Ansari on Tuesday confirmed that Doha will continue its efforts to achieve a cease-fire agreement in the Gaza Strip between Hamas and Israel.

Earlier, the peace talks failed to make any breakthrough as Israel rejected demands by Hamas to end Israel’s deadly offensive on Gaza and withdraw its forces from the enclave.

According to Gaza health minister more than 31,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have since been killed in Gaza, and over 73,000 others wounded amid mass destruction.
