VIRGINIA: Several people are believed to have been killed and others injured after an assailant opened fire in a Walmart shooting in Virginia state on Tuesday night, US media quoted police as saying.
According to the authorities, the gunman was acting alone and is thought to be among those killed. The number of deaths was unclear, however, police said that the fatalities were less than 10. The gun attack was carried out at a store in Chesapeake. City spokeswoman Elizabeth Vaughn quoted police as saying that the assailant was dead.
When the police arrived at the scene, the shooting had already stopped.
Virginia Police Recover Dead Bodies
Most of the victims were recovered from the building, but one was found dead outside. Police said that they were still on the site and search the premises to confirm that there was only one shooter.
Virginia state Senator Louise Lucas said that she was heartbroken that America’s latest mass shooting occurred in a Walmart in her district in Chesapeake. She said that she would not rest until they find the solutions to end the gun violence epidemic in the country that has taken so many lives.
