Sindh Assembly: Newly-elected Lawmakers Take Oath

KARACHI: The newly-elected members of Sindh Assembly took oath on Saturday during the first session of the house after general elections on February 8. The outgoing speaker of the Sindh Assembly Agha Siraj Durrani has administered the oath to newly elected lawmakers.

As per the Election Commission of Pakistan’s results, PPP had won the most provincial assembly seats (84) followed by MQM-P (28), while independent candidates also collected 14, GDA two, and JI 2 seats in the February 8 elections in the province.

Similarly, the PPP also got 26 reserved seats for minorities and women, with the MQM-P being allocated 8 reserved seats as per their strength in the provincial assembly.

On the other hand, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had announced the names for key positions in the provincial assembly. Bilawal said that Murad Ali Shah would be PPP’s candidate for Sindh chief minister position. He further said that Syed Awais Qadir Shah and Naveed Anthony would be PPP’s candidate for Sindh Assembly speaker and deputy speaker offices, respectively.
