UNITED NATIONS: With the aim of ending the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan, Pakistan has appealed to the international community for immediate steps to end the deepening crisis. On Saturday, Pakistan’s Envoy to the United Nations, Munir Akram, told the UN Security Council (UNSC) that Afghanistan’s economy needs revival on a priority basis.
Munir Akram said that Pakistan’s top priority is to end the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan. He maintained that stability and peace in Afghanistan are among the top priorities of Pakistan.
Ambassador Munir Akram reminded the international community to ensure the provision of $4.2 billion in humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan as part of the appeal launched by the UN Secretary-General.
Another Refugee Flow in the Upping if Afghanistan’s Economy Not Revived
“We need to revive the Afghan economy — its banking system — and Afghanistan’s assets held abroad. All these need to be re-injected into the Afghan financial system,” Munir Akram maintained.
Munir Akram suggested a realistic approach to deal with issues being faced by Afghanistan.
Munir Akram warned the world of another flow of refugees if timely steps were not taken to address the current humanitarian crisis. He argued that there would be another refugee flow that Pakistan or any other neighboring country of Afghanistan would require to accommodate and facilitate.
Munir Akram reminded the world community that Pakistan, on its part, has hosted more than three million Afghan refugees for over four decades.
“The whole world needs to deal with Afghanistan’s humanitarian situation and immediately revive the economy of Afghanistan.
Besides stability, peace, and economic revival, Ambassador Akram said Pakistan was also concerned with terrorism arising from Afghanistan. “Pakistan is still facing TTP attacks from across the border. APP
