DOHA: Emir of Qatar has appreciated Russia’s cooperation in preparing for the World Cup.
The Emir conveyed his appreciation for Russia during a phone call to President Vladimir Putin. Russia had taken part in a World security exercise for the World Cup in 2021.

A press statement released by the Emir’s office said President Putin congratulated Qatar on the hosting of the Football World Cup. It said the Emir thanked the Russian President and praised the country’s cooperation in organising the global event.
No senior Russian officials are expected to be in Doha for the event however, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken starts a two-day visit on Monday. According to the US statement, the purpose of Blinken’s visit to Qatar is to recognize Qatar’s crucial contribution to international sports diplomacy as it hosts the mega event.
Blinken will meet Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani and some of the top officials at the opening of the annual US-Qatar Strategic Dialogue. He will also be among the spectators of the US team’s opening match against Wales on Monday. — AFP/APP
