NEW YORK: Renowned actress Nicole Kidman shared insights into the challenges she faced while filming an emotional scene in her upcoming Amazon series, “Expats.” In a candid conversation with The Guardian, the Oscar winner revealed the difficulty she experienced during a scene where her character’s son goes missing.

Kidman expressed her initial resistance, recalling, “I said, I cannot, cannot do this. It was like when a donkey just goes, ‘I am not going.’”

Providing context to the situation, the “Aquaman” actress explained that she was alone in Hong Kong without her family during the shoot, which significantly impacted her mental state. Kidman admitted it was a mistake to be separated from her family, as she could not easily reunite with them due to the filming location.

Nicole Kidman Reflects on Challenges

Reflecting on the challenges, Kidman shared, “That affected the performance, to the degree that it also affected my psyche.” However, she emphasized her commitment to authenticity in her roles, drawing parallels with the domestic violence storyline in “Big Little Lies.”

“I think: people go through this, my job is to be the conduit and perform it to its absolute authentic truth. And if I am not doing that, then I am not serving why I work as an actor, which is to artistically connect to the way life is, in all its pain and glory,” Kidman added.

“Expats” is set to premiere on Amazon Video on January 26, offering audiences a glimpse into Kidman’s immersive and authentic portrayal of complex and emotional narratives.
