Sultan Rahi’s 28th Death Anniversary Being Observed

LAHORE: The 28th death anniversary of legendary film star Sultan Rahi is being observed on Tuesday across Pakistan.

Sultan Rahi started his film career in 1959 as a guest actor in a film ‘Baghi’. He rose to stardom with the release of super-hit film ‘Maula Jatt’ in 1979.

He appeared in more than 800 Punjabi and Urdu-language movies during his career. His was also named in the Guinness Book of World Records as the most prolific actor.

Rahi was born on June 24, 1938, as Muhammad Sultan.

He earned two Nigar Awards for his work in films ‘Babul’ and ‘Basheera’. Rahi worked in the Punjabi film industry for over four decades. He was the highest paid actor of his time.

His most prominent films are ‘Maula Jutt’, ‘Godfather’, ‘Sher Khan’ and ‘Warryam’.

Rahi had expressed his desire to appear in films wearing suits, but producers kept on casting him Gandasa films.

Sultan Rahi was shot dead near Gujranwala in 1996. His sudden death was considered a great loss to the film industry.
