RIYADH: Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Mohammed Al-Budaiwi, and EU Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrell have met in Riyadh to discuss the latest developments in Israel’s war on Gaza, Arab media reported on Monday.
According to the reports they reviewed ways to boost regional and international efforts for reaching a ceasefire and ending the humanitarian disaster in the occupied Palestinian territory.
During the meeting they also addressed GCC and EU senior officials’ regional security dialogue, which is scheduled to take place on January 24 in Riyadh.
Al-Budaiwi and Borrell also discussed ways to enhance and develop collaboration between the GCC and the EU in various sectors, stressing the importance of collective action to address current challenges.
The Health Ministry in the Gaza Strip on Monday reported that at least 23,084 Palestinian people, mostly women and children, had been killed in the ongoing Israeli bombardments since October 7.

The ministry’s statement revealed that within the past 24 hours alone, 249 Palestinians were killed, while a total of 58,926 people had been injured in the Gaza Strip during the more than three months of relentless Israeli attacks.
The UN has said that some 1.87 million Palestinians, over 80 percent of Gaza’s population, have left their homes because of the Israeli bombardment of the besieged enclave.
The Israeli raids have almost destroyed entire neighborhoods in northern Gaza. Israeli ground troops have been facing heavy resistance from Hamas fighters in the area.
