CAIRO: Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has vowed to play his role to stop the war between Israel and Hamas, describing it as his country’s primary challenge, Arab media reported on Monday.
El-Sisi made the remarks while speaking to the Egyptian people following the announcement of the presidential election’s results. He promised to continue building a “new republic” after securing a third term.
According to the National Election Authority Sisi took 89.6 percent of the vote. He lauded the other candidates.
He extended his greetings to all the competing candidates for the great work that they have done for Egypt.
Election demonstrates will of Egyptian people: Sisi
The president said the election was a vigorous testament, for all observers both inside and outside of the Egypt. He noted the election demonstrated the will of the Egyptian people.
El-Sisi also expressed immense gratitude to every Egyptian who participated in this momentous event amid this critical circumstance, as the country is grappling with many challenges across all levels.
He said the war in region poses a great threat to Egypt’s national security, in particular, and the Palestinian issue, in general.

He said though he belonged to the military institution he always worked with the people of Egypt.
Sisi, a retired army field marshal, first assumed the presidency in 2014 after leading the overthrow of elected President Mohamed Morsi in 2013. His popularity, once dubbed “Sisimania,” has waned, but he remains a polarizing figure, credited by supporters for restoring public order after a period of political violence and chaos.
