MOSCOW: On Thursday, Russia’s upper house of parliament voted to schedule the presidential election for March 17, 2024.
Valentina Matviyenko, the head of the Federation Council, stated that this decision marks the commencement of the election campaign.
Notably, residents of the annexed parts of Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhya, and Kherson regions of Ukraine will participate in the vote for the first time.
Matviyenko emphasized that by collectively choosing a head of state, they are sharing the common responsibility and destiny of their homeland.
President Vladimir Putin has not yet officially declared his candidacy for a new six-year presidential term.
