BEIJING: Muhammad Asim Khichi, the Managing Director (MD) of the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) on Wednesday said that the World Media Summit (WMS) was a crucial platform for addressing key media issues and strengthening media cooperation.

In an exclusive interview with Xinhua, Khichi expressed hope that the summit would provide opportunities among participants in various areas, including cultural exchanges, content sharing, language support, joint initiatives, technology transfer, and joint coverage of global issues.

Khichi said, “The summit is a valuable platform for media organizations to learn from each other, embrace opportunities, and tackle challenges in the ever-evolving media sector.”

He further highlighted the close relationship between Pakistan’s state news agency and Xinhua, suggesting that such cooperation could amplify voices for shared progress and foster win-win cooperation, thereby providing a broader platform for their perspectives and promoting a more inclusive global discourse.

Khichi underscored the longstanding relationship between the two media agencies, dating back to 1964, as a successful example of media cooperation. He expressed confidence that the WMS would further solidify this partnership and open avenues for new initiatives.

Recognizing the increasing influence of media, particularly digital and social media, Khichi emphasized the need for enhanced cooperation between Pakistan and China in countering fake news.  —APP
