Pakistan’s PM Sees People Leaving Country as Brain Asset for Future

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar dismissed the notion that emigration from Pakistan indicated failure, stating, “Brain drain can become a brain asset [in the future], and this is a positive way to perceive it.”

The Prime Minister made these remarks during an interactive session titled ‘Breakfast with the Prime Minister’ on Friday.

A recent report by the Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment revealed that over 10 million Pakistani citizens have migrated. The caretaker premier acknowledged Pakistan’s diverse creative potential and emphasized the importance of providing skills to the youth through targeted training programs.

PM Kakar highlighted the caretaker government’s priority to train one million nurses in a decade and explore partnerships with international entities like Siemens, Germany, for skill development.

Discussing the interim government’s legacy, Kakar mentioned its accomplishments in addressing economic challenges, privatization, and connectivity. He stressed the importance of skilled human capital as a solution to various challenges and revealed the government’s focus on fast-tracking the privatization of state-owned enterprises, with PIA as a priority.

The prime minister expressed confidence in attracting foreign investment through the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), with expectations of significant investments in agriculture, IT, and mining. He highlighted the role of connectivity, mentioning the Trans-Afghan railway and ongoing improvements in the Quetta-Taftan rail network.

Regarding the current political scenario, PM Kakar characterized it as a continuation of the transitional democracy process in Pakistan.

He acknowledged media freedom in the country while emphasizing the need for regulations in the digital media landscape. PM Kakar expressed optimism that, with the continuity of the democratic process, people would gradually link parties with their performance and service delivery.
