SEOUL: North Korea on Thursday strongly criticized a recent trip to South Korea by top US defence officials and pledged more “offensive” replies to what it called military threats from Washington and its allies, state media KCNA reported.
A spokesperson for the North Korea’s Ministry of defence ministry alleged Washington for increasing tensions in the region, referring to US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin’s South Korea visit in the current week, KCNA maintained.
It added that North Korea’s military would strongly manage and control all threats to its country’s security and interests with more offensive and counteraction capabilities and via visible strategic deterrent military acts.
North Korea Vows Offensive Reply to US ‘threats’: State Media
During the Pentagon Chief’s visit, Seoul and Washington revised a bilateral security agreement aimed at deterring North Korea’s nuclear and missile threats.
In a statement, South Korea’s defence ministry stated the revision was essential because the current strategy did not adequately address fast advancements in North Korea’s nuclear and missile programs.

However, North Korea said Washington and its allies were responsible for infuriating military tensions in the region, quoting their large-scale military exercise and the increased presence of US strategic assets the Korean peninsula.
