ISLAMABAD: England beat the Netherlands by a huge margin of 160 runs to register their second win in the ICC contest played at Pune, India, on Tuesday. After winning the match by a great margin, England managed to reach 7th position on the point table after remaining in the last position on the points table for a long. Due to the terrific innings by David Malan (87) and Ben Stokes (108), England managed to set a total of 339 in 50 overs.
Chasing a huge target of 340, the Netherlands lost two quick wickets. First, Max O’Dowd was dismissed by Chris Woakes on 5 in the 5th over, and then in the next over, Colin Ackermann was dismissed by Willey on a duck.
Losing 2 quick wickets in the first 6 overs, the other opener, Wesley Barresi, and in-form Sybrand Engelbrecht managed to spend some time on the crease and added in a 55-run partnership for the team. However, in the 18th over, Wesley Barresi got run-out on 37. He was followed by the dismissal of Sybrand Engelbrecht on 33 when the total reached 90 in the 23rd over. The next was Bas de Leede, who scored just 10 runs.
Like the previous games, the Netherlands lost their 5th wicket till reaching 100 runs. In most of the matches (Except the last one against Afghanistan), the middle and lower order, particularly the skipper Scott Edwards, managed to rescue the team.
Like the previous games, the situation repeated as on 104 for 5, the skipper Scott Edwards and Teja Nidamanuru showed resistance and stayed on the crease to stop the continued falling of wickets. However, this time, they didn’t manage to stay too long due to the pressure of the high run rate but still added 59 runs in partnership.
In the 34th over, the skipper was dismissed by Moeen Ali on 38. His inning included 3 fours and a six. Scott Edwards was replaced by Logan van Beek who was removed by Adil Rashid after adding just 2 runs to the total. At the stage, the Netherlands were 166 for 7 in 34.5 overs.
After the dismissal of the skipper Edwards, other batters from the lower order collapsed with interval. However, middle-order batter Teja Nidamanuru, after having a solid partnership with the skipper, continued his innings despite falling wickets from the other hand.
In the next over, Moeen Ali got rid of Roelof van der Merwe on a duck. In the 37th over, Adil Rashid struck and took his 3rd wicket after dismissing Aryan Dutt 1 run. Paul van Meekeren was the last to go on 4 runs when the total reached 179 in 37.2 overs. Teja Nidamanuru remained unbeaten on 41. England won the match by a huge margin of 160 runs to register their second win in the mega event.
From England, Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali took 3 wickets each. David Willey got two wickets, while Chris Woakes took one wicket.

Earlier, after winning the toss, England chose to bat first. English Openers Jonny Bairstow and Dawid Malan took a quick start for the team. However, in the 7th over, Dutt dismissed Bairstow on 15. Bairstow was replaced by Joe Root who along with Malan, drove the innings to 133. Meanwhile, Malan also completed his half-century. In the 21st over, Van Beek dismissed Root on 28.
Later, Malan was also dismissed after playing a superb knock of 80 on 69 balls, including 4 fours and 4 sixes. The Dutch bowlers took further quick wickets of Harry Brook, Jos Buttler, and Moeen Ali. At the stage, England were 192 for 6 in 35.2 overs.
However, the middle-order batter, Ben Stokes, managed to defend the other hand and put continuous pressure against the Dutch bowlers. He also completed his half-century. Number 8 batter Chris Woakes accompanied him at the right time. Both batters contributed a crucial partnership of 129 runs and took their side to a decent total.
Later, Ben Stokes smashed his splendid hundred while facing just 78 balls, including 6 fours and 5 sixes. Chris Woakes also smashed a fine half-century of 51 runs on 45 balls. He was removed by Bas De Leede on the very next ball. At the stage, England were 321 for 7 in 48.4 overs. In the same over, after hitting a six, the new batter, David Willey, was also removed by Bas de Leede. In the final over, Ben Stokes also got out on 108 runs. England managed to score 339 for the loss of 9 in 50 overs.
From the Netherlands, Bas de Leede got 3 wickets. Aryan Dutt and Van Beek took 2 wickets each, while Van Meekeren grabbed one wicket.
