RIYADH: Saudi Arabia increased the social security pension by 20 percent on Monday. The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development announced a royal decree that raised the social security pension from SR1100 to SR1320.

This decision reflects the commitment of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman, to improve the living standards of both male and female citizens by easing their financial burdens. The King’s directive is in alignment with a recommendation made by the Crown Prince, Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Council of Economic and Development Affairs, Mohammed bin Salman.

Moreover, the King has issued an instruction to extend the registration and additional financial support for beneficiaries of the Citizen’s Account Program for a three-month period.

The royal decree has also granted authorization to the Citizen Account Committee to introduce new criteria aimed at enhancing the efficiency of support and ensuring it reaches the most deserving segments of Saudi society.

This extension of support for Citizen’s Account Program beneficiaries builds upon a previous directive implemented in July 2022, and it will continue to cover beneficiaries until the September 2023 batch.

The increase in the minimum basic pension will directly contribute to meeting the fundamental needs of every beneficiary, according to Mohammed Al-Rizqi, the ministry’s spokesman. He noted that this decision will take effect on November 1, 2023, and the increase will be automatically applied to all beneficiaries without requiring any action on their part.

Empowering Vulnerable Segments of Saudi Arabia

Al-Rizqi explained, “The social security pension for the breadwinner will now amount to SR1320 instead of SR1100, and for dependents, it will be SR660 instead of SR550. The increase applies to all eligible family members without exceeding the per-family upper limit of SR5000.”

This directive aims to establish the necessary mechanisms and measures to assist the most vulnerable segments of society. It seeks to ensure a minimum income that covers the essential needs of beneficiaries and provides them with social support and protection, particularly those in the greatest need.
