ISLAMABAD: The Special Court Monday announced that PTI chairman Imran Khan and Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi will be indicted on October 17.

The PTI chief and his deputy were presented before special court Judge Zulqarnain in the court set up in Adiyala jail where both leaders are locked up. According to the sources, the copies of the challan, submitted to the court by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), were partially provided to the counsels of the accused.

The court also issued notices to government witnesses in the case. Following this, the hearing was adjourned.

On the last hearing, the PTI lawyers raised objections to the hearing of the case in Adiyala jail and pleaded the court to put off the hearing until Islamabad High Court (IHC) decides on its plea challenging the in-camera trial of their clients.

According to Imran’s lawyer Salman Safdar, PTI Chairman Imran Khan protested against the treatment meted out to him in Adiyala jail during the hearing of the cipher case today and asked he be treated like any other prisoner. He was speaking to the media after attending the hearing held in the Adiyala jail.

He said the chairman protested that he was provided with a room where it was difficult to live, difficult to move or walk. He added that he felt that the PTI chief’s blood pressure was high during today’s hearing.

Moreover, the lawyer demanded that the trial of the case be conducted in an open court so the public could be aware of it, saying it was not “right” to hold the trial in jail.

Meanwhile, other PTI chief’s lawyer Sher Afzal Marwat disclosed that the PTI chief and his deputy Shah Mahmood Qureshi were presented in a “cage type” facility during today’s hearing. Not even terrorists are presented in such a manner, he added. He also expressed annoyance over the judge’s attitude, claiming that Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain’s adopted a confrontational attitude during the hearing.
