Star-studded Committee to Choose Pakistan’s Official Entry for Oscars

ISLAMABAD: A high-profile committee responsible for choosing Pakistan’s official entry for the Oscars in the Best International Feature Film category has been announced.

This star-studded committee comprises prominent personalities from the Pakistani entertainment and arts industry. It includes director and cinematographer Bilal Lashari, PR expert Frieha Altaf, filmmaker Haya Fatima Iqbal, documentary writer and director Saim Sadiq, actor Fawad Khan, author Fatima Bhutto, filmmaker Madeeha Syed, filmmaker Mehreen Jabbar, veteran actor Nadia Afgan, and actor Ahmed Ali Akbar.

A press release states that this committee will meticulously evaluate eligible films over the next month to determine the entry that best represents the essence of Pakistani cinema. Their chosen film will then be submitted to the Academy Awards for consideration in the prestigious Best International Feature Film category.

Mohammed Ali Naqvi, Chairman of the Pakistani Academy Selection Committee (PASC), expressed his enthusiasm for collaborating with such a talented team, highlighting the flourishing talent within Pakistan’s film industry.

He emphasized the privilege of working together to showcase the exceptional storytelling made by Pakistani filmmakers. Naqvi also mentioned that the committee is actively in the process of evaluating the received films.

An official announcement regarding Pakistan’s selected submission for the 96th Academy Awards in the Best International Feature Film category is anticipated to be made by early October.
