PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister Atif Khan has received an extortion letter of Rs8 million from the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
While talking to journalists, Atif confirmed receiving the letter, adding he has shared it with concerned authorities.
According to media sources, militants threatened the minister that he may even lose his life if they didn’t receive the amount within three days.
Reportedly, TTP’s Mardan chapter confirmed the issuance of the letter which comes amid reports of militants’ resurgence in KP.
Recently, a terror attack also took place on a school van in Swat, killing a van driver.
On Friday, the National Security Committee (NSC), in a meeting, vowed to respond firmly to resurging terrorism in KP and agreed on a plan to revitalize the counterterrorism apparatus. The meeting, headed by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and attended by ministers, services chiefs, and intelligence chiefs, was convened in the milieu of large-scale protests in Swat over growing insecurity concerns.
