Daesh terrorists captured parts of Iraq and neighboring Syria in 2014, declaring a caliphate. They defeated in 2017 by Iraqi forces with the support of a US-led military coalition.
However, terrorist cells still carry out attacks on the army and police, especially in rural and remote areas.
A United Nations report published in July said Daesh has the force of 5,000 to 7,000 members across Iraq and the Syrian Arab Republic, the majority of whom is fighters.
