Hafiz Naeem ur Rahman, Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Karachi chief, has announced to move Supreme Court against the postponement of local government elections in Karachi.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, he accused the election commission was supporting the Pakistan People’s Party-led (PPP) Sindh government. He also termed the postponement of LG elections an unfortunate act’, a local News report.

“Why is PPP afraid of the local government polls if it claims to be a democratic party? The postponement of these polls is anti-democratic”, He said.

While accusing ECP, he said that the electoral body was working as a tool of the PPP and that the Chief Election Commissioner should resign if he cannot hold elections.

He added that JI would start a big movement for the development of the mega city Karachi as its people are deprived of basic human rights. The ECP has postponed the local government elections in Karachi scheduled for October 23, for the third time. The decision was taken following a request by the Sindh government seeking postponement for three months of the LG polls in seven districts of Karachi, citing a shortage of personnel.
