AFGHANISTAN: A fatal road accident in Balkh Province of north Afghanistan on Tuesday killed six passengers, Khair Mohammad Khair Khwa, the provincial hospital spokesman confirmed on Wednesday.
Two cars collided on the Jawzjan-Balkh highway on Tuesday afternoon in the Chaharbolak region of Balkh due to careless driving; some of the injured were in severe condition, Khwa noted.
Since August 19, there have been four traffic accidents nationwide. In the country’s Badakhshan, Ghazni, and Laghman provinces over the previous four days, three more people have been killed and 26 injured due to various traffic accidents.
Over the previous three months, nearly 400 people have reportedly died in road accidents in the country ravaged by war. The major causes of these accidents include ramshackle roads, old automobiles, a lack of safety precautions when traveling, and uncontrolled driving on congested highways. —Xinhua/APP
