SANAA: Yemen’s Houthis have claimed responsibility for fresh attacks on ships in the Red Sea, targeting vessels belonging to both the United States and the United Kingdom.
According to a statement by Houthi spokesman Yahya Saree, the American ship Star Nasia and the British ship Morning Tide were both struck in separate incidents.
Initially, security firm Ambrey reported a drone attack on a British-owned cargo ship off the coast of Yemen. However, it later clarified that a projectile was launched from a small boat near the Barbados-flagged vessel, causing minor damage but no casualties among the crew.
Houthis Attacks on Israel-linked Vessels in Red Sea
The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations confirmed receiving a report of an incident near the port city of Hodeida, stating that a projectile had been fired at a vessel, causing minor damage to the bridge windows. The vessel and crew are reported to be safe, and the ship is continuing its voyage as planned.
The Houthi attacks on Red Sea shipping have been ongoing for months, in protest against the Israeli aggression in Gaza. These incidents have led to retaliatory actions by US and British forces, including airstrikes targeting several Houthi locations.
Houthi spokesman Yahya Saree stated that they would continue to carry out military operations against what they perceive as hostile American and British targets in self-defense.
