BEIJING: Chinese President Xi Jinping has held a meeting with the representatives of US business community, official media reported, as China seeks to encourage foreign investment and reassure American companies in the face of a slowing economy.

State broadcaster CCTV reported that on Wednesday, China’s President Xi Jinping met with representatives from the US businesses at Great Hall of the People.

The Wall Street Journal, quoting sources, reported last week that a meeting between President Xi and the leaders of US business groups was in the works.

The meeting also comes a few days following the China Development Forum in Beijing, which was attended by Apple Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook and other top executives.

In November, President Xi told the US business leaders in San Francisco that Beijing is ready to be a partner and friend of Washington, and there is adequately of room for cooperation, in a bid to overcome China’s efforts to entice foreign investment.
