El Meri, Lebanon: File images shot in August 2025 show French peacekeepers with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) at a site on the outskirts of the southern Lebanese village of El Meri. According French President Emmanuel Macron a second French soldier has died from wounds suffered in an ambush against UN peacekeepers in Lebanon blamed on Hezbollah on Saturday April 18, 2026. The first soldier, staff sergeant Florian Montorio, was shot dead in the ambush, for which Hezbollah has denied responsibility.
