LONDON: Wagner, a mercenary group, is set to be banned as a terrorist organization by the UK government, BBC reported on Tuesday. As per media reports, a draft order to be tabled in the country’s Parliament will permit its assets to be categorized as terrorist property and apprehended.
Wagner to be banned in UK
The UK Home Secretary claimed Wagner was ” destructive and violent and… a military instrument of Russian President”. She claimed that the group work in Africa and Ukraine was a “danger to work security”. She said, “The group members are terrorists, simple and plain- and this ban order makes that clear in United Kingdom law.” Wagner’s men have been blamed for a number of crimes in Ukraine.

BBC reported that Wagner’s future was thrown into doubt earlier the current year when its head Yevgeny Prigozhin, carried out a failed coup against Moscow. Later on, Yevgeny Prigozhin was killed when a plane crashed in Moscow.
As per local media reports, the Terrorism Act 2000 empowers the home secretary in the UK to proscribe groups if they believe it is concerned with terrorism.
