WASHINGTON: American warplanes attacked Houthi three underground storage facilities in Yemen late Friday in an apparent counter-attack following the Iran-backed militia launched another set of drones and missiles toward targets in the Red Sea. A US official said the jets carried out the attack from the Red Sea, AP reported.
In a statement the US military’s Central Command (CENTCOM) has confirmed the attack against three Houthi facilities in Yemen. The statement said that the attacks targeted capabilities utilized by the Houthis to threaten and assault vessels in the region. It claimed that between 4:22 a.m. and 11:10 p.m. (local time), CENTCOM troops had destroyed 4 unmanned aerial vehicles in Yemen.
It said during this timeframe, the Houthis also fired 4 anti-ship ballistic missiles toward the Red Sea and that no damage were reported by US commercial or coalition ships.
Yemen’s Houthi, which are allied with Tehran have launched a campaign of missile and drone attacks on shipping in the Red Sea, which Houthi describe as an effort to press Israel to end its war on Gaza. The Houthis have kept up their assaults despite two months of US-led strikes, AP reported.
