WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump on Monday said that a potential deal with Iran would “guarantee peace, security, and safety” globally, presenting it as a stronger alternative to the 2015 nuclear deal.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said the deal under negotiation would be “far better” than the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which he criticised as “one of the worst deals ever made” on national security.

“The DEAL that we are making with Iran will be FAR BETTER than the JCPOA, commonly referred to as “The Iran Nuclear Deal,” penned by Barack Hussein Obama and Sleepy Joe Biden, one of the Worst Deals ever made having to do with the Security of our Country,” Trump wrote.

The US President reiterated that any new agreement would prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

The 2015 deal “was a guaranteed Road to a Nuclear Weapon, which will not, and cannot, happen with the Deal we’re working on,” Trump stated.

He also renewed criticism of his predecessors, including Barack Obama and Joe Biden, accusing them of enabling Iran through financial concessions.

“They actually gave $1.7 Billion Dollars in “GREEN” Cash, loaded into a Boeing 757, and flown to Iran for Iranian leadership to spend anyway they saw fit,” Trump claimed.

The US President asserted that a potential deal reached under his leadership would bring stability not only to the Middle East but also to Europe and the United States and everywhere in the world.

“If a Deal happens under “TRUMP,” it will guarantee Peace, Security, and Safety, not only for Israel and the Middle East, but for Europe, America, and everywhere else,” Trump said.

US delegation to land in Islamabad for Iran talks

Earlier today, Trump said that US Vice President JD Vance and a high-level American delegation are en route to Pakistan and are expected to land in Islamabad within hours for the next round of talks with Iran.

Pakistan is set to host a second round of high-stakes talks between the US and Iran this week.

The talks, scheduled in Islamabad, follow an initial round that kept diplomatic channels open amid ongoing tensions.

“They’re heading over now,” Trump told the New York Post in an interview shortly after 9 a.m. EST. “They’ll be there tonight, [Islamabad] time.”

Trump confirmed that the delegation includes Vice President Vance, special envoy Steve Witkoff and adviser Jared Kushner.

Trump open to direct meeting with Iranian leaders

Meanwhile, Pakistan has intensified diplomatic efforts to sustain dialogue between Washington and Tehran ahead of the expiry of the 14-day ceasefire.

Trump indicated he was open to a direct meeting with Iranian leaders if progress is made.

“I have no problem meeting them,” he said. “If they want to meet, and we have some very capable people, but I have no problem meeting them.”

The US President said the main objective of the negotiations remained Iran’s nuclear programme, reiterating Washington’s demand that Tehran abandon any pursuit of nuclear weapons.

“Get rid of their nuclear weapons. That’s all very simple,” Trump said. “There will be no nuclear weapon,” Trump said as quoted by the New York Post.

He added that Iran could prosper if it complies with these demands. “Otherwise, a wonderful country — it truly could be,” he said.
